Complete HSL Color Guide
HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) is a cylindrical color model that describes colors in terms that are intuitive to humans. Unlike RGB which requires understanding how red, green, and blue light combine, HSL lets you think about color as: "What color? How vivid? How bright?"
Hue is the color angle on the color wheel, measured in degrees from 0 to 360. Red is at 0 (and 360), yellow at 60, green at 120, cyan at 180, blue at 240, and magenta at 300. This circular model means you can create harmonious color schemes by rotating the hue by specific amounts.
Saturation controls the purity or vividness of the color. At 100%, the color is at its most intense. At 0%, regardless of the hue, the result is a shade of gray. This makes it easy to create muted or vibrant versions of any color.
Lightness controls the brightness. 0% is always black, 100% is always white, and 50% gives the pure, most vivid version of the color. This property makes it trivial to create lighter tints or darker shades of any color.
