Brightness & Contrast Guide

Brightness controls the overall lightness of an image. Increasing brightness adds a constant value to all pixel channels, making the entire image lighter. Decreasing it makes the image darker.

Contrast controls the difference between light and dark areas. High contrast makes bright pixels brighter and dark pixels darker, creating a more dramatic image. Low contrast brings all pixels closer to mid-gray, creating a flat appearance.

What does brightness adjustment do?

Brightness increases or decreases the overall lightness of all pixels. Positive values make the image lighter, negative values make it darker.

What does contrast adjustment do?

Contrast changes the difference between light and dark areas. Higher contrast makes lights lighter and darks darker. Lower contrast makes the image appear more gray/flat.

Will this affect image quality?

The adjustments modify pixel values directly. Extreme settings may cause clipping (loss of detail in very bright or dark areas). Moderate adjustments preserve quality well.

Can I reset to the original?

Set both brightness and contrast sliders to 0 and click Apply to return to the original appearance.
